State of the Comic.
May 15, 2005
A few very important things (well, important to me).
Those of you who read my LJ will know part of this at least.
New Gold Dreams: I posted a while back on the site that I
plan to relaunch New Gold Dreams on June 6th. This hasn't changed. I
intended to make it three days a week, although if I surprise myself
with a sudden burst of creativity and get a shitload more of comics
done, I'll bump it up to four days a week. It will still be black and
white. It will NOT be as long as it has been. Prior strips took 12-16
HOURS to complete because they were about the size of two to three S*P
strips. I've also reworked how the story's going to fold out - which
means nothing to any of you, but is pretty important to me for purposes
of getting things done.
Also, in the very near future, New Gold Dreams will have its own domain
and will no longer be a site area on Something Positive.
Currently, the goal for New Gold Dream is it will reach its end in 2011
or 2012.
Something Else: New Gold Dreams won't be the only comic to
launch on June 6th. I will only say the other comic will also be a
spin-off of S*P and will update five days a week. Some of you will
figure out quickly how it's connected to S*P. Some of you won't give a
shit. It will be in full color like S*P, but that'll be one of the few
similarities.
The new strip is expected to run until 2013. And, no, "Something Else"
isn't the title of the strip.
Loaded gun: I full expect to have suicidal tendancies come
August. But so far, working on the other comics hasn't been as bad as I
feared it would be. And there's a small but strong backlog.
Ads: Some of you have noticed Google Ads on this site.
It was under the recommendation of other cartoonists I give them a try.
I've not been overly impressed, but at the same time it's not been too
bad, either. As of today, I will no longer be using Google Ads on
Something Positive.; however, all advertising on the two spin off
comics will be Google Ads for reasons of
simplicity (managing ads on one site's "fun" enough).
Money: As of May 14th, it's been one year since an email set
me off and I dared people to give oney... kinda scary.
Thanks for the past year. I hope you've all enjoyed it and felt it's
worth the money. A lot of you have asked if I'm going to do it again.
I always said it was a card I was scared to play twice, and still am.
So I don't know. If you guys feel it's worth your money, cool. If you
don't, cool. Either way, S*P's going to keep going - and given I now
have a backlog of comics for two other strips instead of hurridly trying
to draw them the day before, it won't be the only thing going. But it
will always be my top priority. Believe it or not, in the end,
this comic keeps me sane.
Isn't that a scary thought?-R
