It's daylight and I am awake... but I don't know why.

May 14, 2007

I'm trying to be better about doing newsposts like I was five years ago... damn it.

First off, I want to congratulate Matt and Darcy over at Code Name: Hunter. They were married this past Friday and I had the opportunity to attend. It was good to see them both again and I'm sure they've got a lot of happy years ahead of them.

I also want to thank the kids in Alpha Theta at Dartmouth College. They had their Dartcon Gaming Weekend this past weekend and Rinny and I got to go on Saturday. We played in a gentleman's homebrew game that was a really impressive system as well as gaming world. Frankly I hope to see more of it shared with the masses. It's good to see everyone there again - it had been too long.

Third: cons. I will have a table in the artist alley at Project A-Kon on June 1-3 of this year, along with Mr. James Grant and Mrs. Mel Hynes of Two Lumps, Ms. Jin Wicked of Crap I Drew on My Lunch Break, and the ever-popular Josh Lesnik of Girly. (Although I'm slightly nervous - my private email address has been botchin' up is either keeping me from or swallowing the emails of their webcomics person).

I will also be a guest at Polycon 25 in San Luis Obespo on June 22-24. I don't get to come out to California often, so if you can make it that would be great.

Next: at PenguiCon, Tom Smith performed a song he'd written about S*P. Apparently I do, in fact, have permission to put it online so expect it up by the end of the week.

Finally, store stuff. I'm sending out every remaining RWW order today and working on any "issue" orders. Rinny has slowly been creeping into the order process, learning what to do and, more importantly, organizing things (so instead of all the shirts sitting in one box, she put up shelving and individual wipe sheets to maintain track of how much of what we have... it's all crazy talk to me). I'm still doing most of it but that is going to gradually change over the course of the summer. We're going to have all the kinks worked out by September - and that's very important.

As of mid September, the S*P store will no longer be part of Warehouse23 - it'll be in-house again. This is not because anything negative with the partnership with W23 - in fact I have nothing but good things to say about everyone over there. They're wonderful people who've kept the readers VERY happy and have damn near broken their backs many times to get things done (and more importantly, had to put up with my dumb ass since late 2003). And I'm hoping to work with them and Steve Jackson Games on other stuff in the future, too. It's a company that has my utmost respect. That said, the time just came to bring the store home and start working on it. The main reason for the original licensing agreement was that I didn't have the time for the store, considering I had a full time job and the comic at the time, and I felt merchandise was just sorta something to offer for the sake of offering it. Needless to say, things have changed and I'm trying to make S*P into more and more of a functioning business.

So, what I'm saying is, if there's something in the S*P store now that you want - get it now. When the S*P store becomes in-house again and a lot of the older shirts vanish, their designs will not be reprinted - save, for now, the Nerdrotica shirt (a design I always loved) and maybe a couple of others.

We're trying to get a few new bits of merchandise ready once the new store opens, including Fred's old work shirt (the blue shirt with the red patch Davan wears) and panties featuring both Choo-Choo Bear and Little Blue Friend. Wheee!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a lotta crap to pack up. -R
